Authors' recommendations: This report assessing the evidence for hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea refractory to continuous positive airway pressure shows that the therapy may substantially reduce important measures of OSA severity (++00). Patient selection appears to be essential to the success of therapy. Severe device-related adverse events are rare. The hypoglossal nerve stimulation treatment is expensive and further studies with long-term follow-up are needed.
