Authors' objectives: OncAlert® and Senso DX OraTech™ are tests to find out whether a patient may have cancer on the surface of the tongue, mouth, lips or gums. OncAlert® is an oral mouthwash which is spat into a cup. The sample is then tested and a result is shown in the form of a colour code or score. With SensoDX OraTech™, a brush is used to get a sample of cells from the mouth. This sample is then placed into a card which goes into a machine where it is analysed and a score for risk is shown. The developers of these tests say the advantages are that the results are available faster, the tests are less painful than current methods and the patient does not need to go to hospital to have the test taken.
