Authors' objectives: To assess the available evidence on the efficacy, safety and coverage related aspects regarding the use of PD US in patients with inflammatory arthropathies.
Authors' recommendations: There is evidence of low methodological quality showing that Doppler ultrasound could be a useful tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with inflammatory arthropathies, especially rheumatoid arthritis. The latest international guidelines recommend it for the assessment and follow-up of patients with rheumatoid arthritis; while national guidelines only endorse a potential indication in these situations.
