Authors' recommendations:
This information brief is a literature review aimed at providing guidance regarding certain medical aspects of assisted reproduction. It will be noted that in Québec, assisted reproduction drugs and a good number of assisted reproduction medical procedures and services have been covered since the implementation of the Québec Assisted Reproduction Program in 2010. However, the only eligibility criteria for this program are that the woman be of childbearing age and have a valid health insurance card.
First, the medical criteria that can serve to frame eligibility for publicly funded assisted reproduction treatments were evaluated. Subsequently, the safety (for women and their children) of repeated steps of in vitro fertilization cycles was examined.
