Authors' recommendations: Two guidelines recommend that artificial nails and jewelry be removed prior to cleaning and soiled hands be washed with soap and water prior to surgical hand antisepsis. Surgical hand antisepsis techniques and agents include surgical hand scrubs with antiseptic soap or alcohol-based hand rubs. No recommendations on specific antiseptic agents were identified.
