Authors' objectives:
This manual is one of the NECA's research methods series. After publication of the NECA's 3rd manual, the Korean version of "Bayesian Meta-Analysis Method", NECA decided to produce an English version to extend the use of this manual globally.
The contents are:
Introduction of a traditional meta-analysis and Bayesian method, followed by a more detailed explanation on how to analyze meta-analysis outcomes and to apply the methods.
Chapter 1 contains the basics of statistics, statistical inference, Bayesian calculation, characteristics of a Bayesian method, and comparison of Bayesian methods with traditional methods.
Chapter 2 is about a systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression analysis and explains meta-analysis and meta-regression analysis in the traditional statistics.
Chapter 3 addresses the selection of methods, characteristics, understanding a prior distribution, and procedures of a Bayesian meta-analysis.
Chapter 4 covers the selection of a model, outcome variables, binary outcome variables, and the 3-level hierarchical random effects model, and explains about different Bayesian meta-analysis models with practical examples of the application.
Chapter 5 addresses a generalized synthesis of evidence, panoramic Bayesian meta-analysis, and application of Bayesian meta-analysis in specific problematic situations.
The appendix contains information on the basic use of WinBUGS, a summary of the Bayesian meta-analysis model, a forest plot using the R-program, and a research reporting method for Bayesian method applied studies.
