Authors' objectives: This rapid review aims to determine which severity assessment tool is the most accurate for patients with community-acquired pneumonia.
Authors' recommendations: Based on very low quality of evidence, the systematic reviews evaluating the performance of PSI, CURB-65 and CRB-65 as severity assessment tools for patients with community-acquired pneumonia reached the following conclusions: The diagnostic odds ratios for the prediction of ICU admission and prediction of death are not significantly different between PSI, CURB-65, and CRB-65. PSI had a higher sensitivity and lower specificity compared to both CURB-65 and CRB-65 for the prediction of ICU admission and prediction of death.
