Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a treatment for epilepsy in which electrical pulses are delivered to the cervical portion of the vagus nerve by an implanted pacemaker-like device. The goal of VNS is to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in patients with seizures that are refractory to medication.
