Hormone therapy for the treatment of gender dysphoria
Record ID 32014000955
English
Authors' objectives:
Continuous feminizing or masculinizing hormone therapy is administered to some adolescents and
adults who have a diagnosis of gender identity disorder (GID) or gender dysphoria (GD). The
purpose of this therapy is to facilitate a transgender individual's desire to transition to a sexual
identity other than his or her biological (natal) sex. Some individuals undergo hormone therapy as a
prelude to sex reassignment surgery; other individuals seeking gender transition undergo hormone
therapy without ever undergoing any type of surgery.
