Authors' objectives:
This report describes a pilot project on identification of potentially significant new health technologies. The work was initiated following a request from the Health Ministry for an early warning process to provide advice on technologies that could be expected to impact on Alberta health care. The report describes the development of an horizon scanning program, its operation during 1999 and 2000, and some strengths and limitations of this approach.
