Authors' recommendations: The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) requested that the Institut national d'excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS) prepare a summary of the literature concerning the inclusion of individual bathrooms in residents' rooms as well as the installation of hydroalcoholic solution dispensers in the halls and other rooms of residential and long-term care centres. Reviewing the literature, INESSS noted a lack of published scientific studies on the subject. The only relevant information found comes from the standards, guidelines or position statements published in five Canadian provinces, the United States and three European countries. In conclusion, INESSS presents the findings of its research.
