Authors' recommendations: The quality of the evidence was considered very low given the methodological and the generalizability issues in the 2 observational studies identified in the literature. Two HTAs published in or before 2008 did not identify any evidence on the frequency of lipid testing. Therefore, conclusions on the frequency of lipid testing could not be made based on the 2 observational studies. The 2012 update of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemia in adults provide recommendations on the frequency of lipid testing in people not diagnosed with dyslipidemia. Testing for dyslipidemia is recommended in groups that are expected to have increased cardiovascular risk and the frequency of testing depends on the person's cardiovascular risk profile.
