Authors' recommendations: Study found that patients with severe limb ischaemia who are expected to live for less than 2 years benefit from balloon angioplasty first, especially where there is no vein for bypass, whereas patients expected to survive for more than 2 years benefit from bypass surgery first, especially where a vein is available for bypass
