Authors' recommendations: Maggot debridement therapy (MDT), a prescribed treatment for nonhealing necrotic skin and soft tissue wounds, involves the application of disinfected medical grade maggots of the green bottle fly to the open wound, with the goal of debridement of necrotic flesh within nonhealing ulcers and resulting in wound bed preparation for surgical closure or complete healing of the wound.
