Bilevel positive airway pressure for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in adults

Record ID 32014000356
English
Authors' recommendations: Bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a technological intervention that delivers airflow during sleep to reduce and/or prevent the occurrence of apneas (periods of no breathing). BiPAP is a form of positive airway pressure therapy that delivers airflow at different rates during the inspiration (inhalation) versus expiration (exhalation) phases of breathing. This therapy has been suggested for use in patients who may have trouble exhaling against the continuous flow of air that is delivered by the more commonly prescribed continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for OSA.
