Authors' objectives:

To assess the available evidence on the effectiveness of treatments for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Authors' recommendations: Based on evidence from randomised controlled trials, only cognitive behavioural therapy has been shown to benefit (improve) physical function in adults with CFS in ambulatory regimen, and on an individualised basis when compared to routine medical treatment. The lack of studies or the contradictory results in other treatments considered (antiviral, immunological, active agents on the central nervous system and metabolites) means that at for the moment they cannot be recommended in regular clinical practice.
