Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for gastroesophageal reflux disease in obese or severely obese patients

Record ID 32013000822
English
Authors' recommendations: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a complex surgical procedure that reduces the size of the stomach and reroutes portions of the small intestine. The RYGB procedure helps patients with severe obesity, who have been unable to achieve significant weight loss through medical therapy and life style changes, to lose a significant amount of weight and maintain that weight loss in the long term. RYGB is also associated with significant improvements or complete resolution of comorbidities associated with overweight and obesity, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
