Endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms
Record ID 32013000813
English
Authors' recommendations:
In endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), an endovascular graft is placed within the abdominal aorta to act as a conduit for blood flow to reduce pressure on the region of the vessel containing the aneurysm (if the aneurysm is unruptured), thereby preventing rupture, or to stop the bleeding if the aneurysm is ruptured. EVAR is used as an alternative to open surgery for the repair of unruptured or ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). It is also used as an alternative to surveillance for small, unruptured AAAs and as an alternative to no treatment for large aneurysms in need of repair in individuals who are unfit for open surgery.
