[New treatments in organ-confined cancer vs. prostatectomy. Systematic review. Ablation with cryotherapy, HIFU and laser-therapy]

Authors' objectives: A systematic review of scientific evidence was carried out to study the effectiveness and safety of prostate ablation with cryotherapy, HIFU and laser therapy in organ-confined prostate cancer compared with open radical prostatectomy and/or laparoscopic prostatectomy (conventional or robotic).
Authors' recommendations: The scientific evidence about organ-confined prostate cancer treatment with cryotherapy, HIFU and/or laser induced interstitial thermal therapy is not enough. The design of the studies found limits the possibility to assess correctly these interventions because it do not establish direct comparisons with open prostatectomy or laparoscopic. It is necessary the elaboration of new prospective studies, controlled and randomized that establish comparisons with the open and robotic prostatectomy in order to determine their relevance.
