Authors' objectives:
We aimed to update the systematic review, include data from Regional and National registers and construct a cost-effectiveness model to aid choice in people over 65 years.
Authors' recommendations:
The linking of reimbursement of hip systems with their performance is a priority issue for the Italian NHS. Such a policy however cannot be carried out efficiently and equitably on current data. Countrywide comparable arthroplasty data from a register are required.
