Osteochondral allograft transplantation for articular disorders of the ankle

Record ID 32013000580
English
Authors' recommendations: Osteochondral allograft transplantation refers to the replacement of damaged articular cartilage and bone with tissue from a cadaveric donor, with the aim of providing viable supporting bone and chondrocytes to maintain the articular surface. In the ankle, the procedure may be used to replace part of the articular surface and underlying bone of the talus (the major weight-bearing bone in the ankle) and/or the lower extremity of the tibia. The major pathologies that may necessitate osteochondral allografting are osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) or severe arthritis.
