Administration of pegfilgrastim (Neulasta; Amgen Inc.) on the same day as chemotherapy

English
Authors' recommendations: Fever with accompanying low blood neutrophil count (febrile neutropenia [FN]) leads to morbidity and mortality in up to 10% of patients receiving chemotherapy. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (GCSFs) are used during or after chemotherapy to prevent FN. These recombinant cytokine proteins stimulate bone marrow proliferation, reduce the maturation time of neutrophils, increase peripheral neutrophil count, and prevent infection.
