Authors' recommendations: Continuous passive motion (CPM) devices are used for the treatment and/or prevention of joint contractures of the extremities, with the goal of maintaining or restoring range of motion (ROM) to the joint. These devices are intended to complement or replace some physical therapist–directed sessions by providing frequent and consistent joint mobilization under controlled conditions in a hospital setting or in the patient's home.
