MelaFind (MELA Sciences Inc.) for detection of malignant melanoma

Record ID 32013000230
English
Authors' recommendations: For Caucasian individuals in the United States, the lifetime probability of developing melanoma of the skin is 1 in 36 for men and 1 in 55 for women. Early detection of melanoma is key in lowering mortality. Estimates of the diagnostic accuracy of dermatologists for discriminating malignant melanoma from benign disease range from 64% to 85%. A successful computer-vision system could remove subjectivity from diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions (PSLs), reduce the number of skin biopsies, and lower the cost of treatment for melanoma by detecting the disease at an earlier stage.
