Record ID 32013000210
English
Authors' recommendations: Screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) for substance use is a public health intervention aimed at first identifying substance use among pregnant women and, when appropriate, providing a brief intervention to offer advice and encouragement to seek treatment, followed by assistance with referrals as needed. The purpose is to promote changes in the pregnant woman's substance use behavior, i.e., reduction or quitting, with the assumption that this may prevent future drug-related medical, social, psychological, or legal problems.
