Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for super obesity in adults

Record ID 32013000193
English
Authors' recommendations: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a surgical weight reduction procedure in which approximately 75% to 85% of the stomach is removed and the remaining stomach is stapled to form a thin tube. This procedure restricts food ingestion and reduces appetite by decreasing levels of hormones associated with hunger, and is being evaluated for treatment of super obesity (body mass index 50 kilograms per square meter). The procedure is performed laparoscopically to minimize surgical complications and decrease the recovery time.
