Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) is produced and secreted by certain types of ovarian cells. HE4 levels can be substantially higher in the bloodstream of women who have ovarian cancer. Measurement of serum HE4 levels has been investigated as a potential means of monitoring women for the development, recurrence, and progression of ovarian cancer.
