Authors' recommendations: Compared to esophagectomy, PDT therapy is less costly and is associated with fewer major adverse events. Photodynamic therapy appears to be slightly more expensive than most of the other endoscopic therapies for Barrett's esophagus, but the difference in costs between the endoscopic therapies is relatively inconsequential. Of all the endoscopic therapies, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) appears to offer the best value for money, but evidence on long term outcomes (in particular, rates of Barrett's recurrence and progression to cancer) with RFA and other endoscopic therapies is lacking.
