Floseal hemostatic matrix (Baxter Healthcare Corp.) for hemostasis during endoscopic sinus surgery

Record ID 32013000138
English
Authors' recommendations: Nasal packing may improve hemostasis during endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and reduce postoperative crusting and scarring. Patients find packing uncomfortable, and the practice may result in injury to the nasal sinuses, infection, and serious respiratory complications. Surgical goals of ESS include achieving hemostasis and stabilizing the middle turbinate after ethmoidectomy. Absorbable hemostatic agents might be able to achieve these objectives without requiring nasal packing with traditional nonabsorbable materials that require postoperative removal.
