Authors' recommendations: There is currently no transcatheter device specifically designed for repair of paravalvular leaks. Transcatheter closure of paravalvular leaks is one of the most difficult procedures confronting interventional cardiologists. The studies located were all case series. Clinically, an improvement was observed in symptoms, i.e., in the form of reductions in cardiac failure, regurgitation and haemolysis, and improvements in functional class. The complications found in the studies were: device embolisation; infective endocarditis; damaged or embolised valve; and haemolysis.
