[Evidence overview of therapeutic hypothermia]

Record ID 32013000023
German
Authors' recommendations: The present overview of evidence shows that there is evidence only for the efficacy and safety of one (cardiac arrest) out of 11 reviewed indications of therapeutic hypothermia. From the large number of ongoing or recently finished trials it can be seen that therapeutic hypothermia is a dynamic field of research. Hence, a benefit of therapeutic hypothermia might be proven in the near future for further indications, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, sepsis and status epilepticus. However, it should be refrained from using therapeutic hypothermia outside of clinical trials as a routine therapy.
