Authors' objectives: To analyse the available scientific evidence on the efficacy, safety and efficiency of corifollitropin alfa for controlled ovarian stimulation, used together with GnRH antagonists for the development of multiple follicles in women who participate in assisted human reproduction technique programmes.
Authors' recommendations: The results of the clinical trials do not show substantial advantages of corifollitropin alfa with respect to the treatment of reference. Despite the convenience and adherence to the treatment represented by the use of corifollitropin alfa, from the viewpoint of the public sector portfolio, the uncertainty regarding safety as well as the higher cost limit the potential advantages posed by its use as a substitute for FSHr during the first seven days of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation.
