Authors' objectives:
The recommendations on the appropriate use of routine preoperative diagnostic tests and earlier test results provided in this assessment were developed from the responses to two surveys of UHC member hospitals. Majority opinions were obtained on recommendations for the use of a number of common tests, and the recommendations can serve as models for institutions developing or revising their own guidelines.
