Authors' objectives:
Reviews the progress of paclitaxel use since its introduction in 1992 as a first-line therapy in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. Also examines the use of paclitaxel as a single agent in treating breast, non-small cell lung cancers, AIDs-related Kaposi's sarcoma, as well as numerous off-label indications, including head and neck, esophageal, small-cell lung, endometrial, and bladder cancers. Also features a discussion of clinical trials pertaining to paclitaxel use and a survey administered to UHC members that shows wide variability in dose and infusion duration.
