Authors' recommendations: Despite a large number of available studies, there remains many questions as to the effectiveness of computed tomography (CT)-based lung cancer screening, including over-diagnosis, the impact on mortality, cost effectiveness and which populations, if any, to screen. A large randomised controlled trial is due to be published in early 2009, therefore HealthPACT have recommended that this technology be monitored in 12 months.
