Authors' recommendations: Based on the low level evidence assessed in this summary, the non-invasive mechanical insufflation-exsufflation appears to be a useful adjunct in the management of patients with neuromuscular disease who have impaired airway function. Although long-term comparative data is lacking, this small patient group may benefit greatly from this therapy. Therefore Health PACT recommended that this technology be monitored for further information in 12-months time.
