Ultrasound guidance to aid in the placement of peripherally inserted central catheter lines

Record ID 32012000206
English
Authors' recommendations: Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are intravenous lines that deliver medications that must be infused rapidly or that may cause intravascular irritation or damage unless they are rapidly diluted by blood flow. Ultrasound (US) guidance of PICC line insertion is used to improve the speed, safety, and overall success rate of PICC line placement, particularly in patients who do not have visible or palpable veins that are suitable for establishment of a PICC line.
