Xiaflex (collagenase Clostridium histolyticum) (Auxilium Pharmaceuticals Inc.) for dupuytren contracture

Record ID 32012000173
English
Authors' recommendations: Dupuytren contracture affects the fascia (connective tissue) in the palm of the hand, which covers the tendons responsible for flexing the fingers. This disease causes toughening and contraction of the fascia. Over time, the formation of tissue knots and thick cords under the skin pulls the affected finger or fingers into a permanently bent position. Although the cause of Dupuytren contracture is unknown, it is more common in men and in patients who have diabetes, seizure disorders, and epilepsy. The most common treatment for this disorder is fasciectomy, surgical removal of the diseased fascia through open incisions in the hand and fingers.
