Authors' objectives:

This report has been drawn up as part of the National Board of Health's MTV programme. It deals with the medical technology 'assertive community treatment' (ACT), or in Danish the 'outreaching psychosis team' (OP team).

Authors' recommendations: Outreaching psychosis teams should be introduced as the predominant model for treatment and support of people suffering from prolonged mental illnesses (psychoses). This will improve the living conditions of both the mentally ill and their relatives. It is possible to offer this kind of high quality product within the existing financial boundary. It will require a reorganization and an integration of the health related (psychiatric) effort and the social effort.
