Authors' objectives:
64-multislice CT has experienced a significant advance in the last time which has allowed to use it as a diagnostic technology in several indications, specially cardiac indications for the exclusion of coronary artery disease (CAD). The main objective of this systematic review is to assess the efficacy and safety of 64-multislice CT in comparison with other diagnostic techniques and to identify the mean indications.
Authors' recommendations:
Sensitivity of 64-multislice CT has sufficiently high to rule out significant coronary artery disease in patients with low probability pre test of coronary artery disease though the PPV is low. More studies assessing the efficacy of 64-multislice CT depending on previous prevalence and CAD grade are needed. It is necessary studies including new strategies for the reduction of radiation dose with long-term results.
