Authors' objectives:

To assess efficacy and safety of da Vinci Surgical System® in surgical interventions where it is being used and to evaluate costs resulted.

Authors' recommendations: Between 1931 initially identified articles 104 were included in the review. Most of them were observational cohort studies with small sample size and a third of them had a historical control group. The evidence gathered with the review of the published studies showed advantages for the Da Vinci Surgical System assisted surgery as compared with laparoscopic surgery for Heller myotomy, radical hysterectomy in cervical carcinoma, radical prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy. Nevertheless, no evidence was found in favour of the Da Vinci Surgical System assisted surgery justifying its higher cost for colecystectomy, gastric bypass or colorectal resection surgeries.Multiple indications are shown to benefi t from the Da Vinci Surgical System assisted surgery among which we emphasised the mitral valve repair surgery.
