Authors' objectives:

To assess the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy ± lymphadenectomy versus open surgery in women with endometrial cancer.

Authors' recommendations: The evidence shows that the short-term effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic surgery is equivalent to open surgery in women with early stage endometrial cancer. Laparoscopic surgery offers some benefits such a shorter postoperative recovery period with fewer complications. Number of lymph nodes excised is similar with both surgical procedures. Quality of life is better in laparoscopic group, above all in the first month after surgery. One RCT analyzes overall survival, disease-free survival and cause-specific survival, which are equivalent in laparoscopic and laparotomy group. Laparoscopic charges could be lower or similar to open surgery charges.
