Authors' objectives:

To assess the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic versus open surgery for colorectal cancer.

Authors' recommendations: Until the moment the evidence about laparoscopic surgery compared to open surgery shows that postoperative recuperation is faster with LS, complication rates are similar betweenboth procedures and there are no differences in long-term outcomes, but LS is more expensive, in colorectal neoplasm without local invasion or distant metastases and excluding transverse colon cancer and rectal cancer. There are three large multicentric ongoing RCT, it is important to wait for the outcomes of these studies in order to increase the consistency of overall outcomes.
