Authors' recommendations: When compared with laparoscopic surgery for all surgical indications acĀ¬counted higher costs for robotic surgery than for laparoscopic. When compared to open surgery some types of surgery had higher costs for robotic surgery but other types of surgery had lower costs for robotic surgery: hysterectomy, pediatric Nissen fundoplication, radical cystectomy, adrenalectomy, gastric bypass, carotid artery bypass and pancreatectomy. It would require the development of full evaluation studies that evalu-ated the incremental cost-effectiveness of robotic surgery compared to open surgery and laparoscopic and not just as cost studies published to date.
