Authors' objectives: Research into cardiac insufficiency has been, and is, considered of maximum interest as it is one of the pathologies that represent a greater financial burden for Health Systems. This fact, among others, has allowed the development of promising treatments, such as cellular cardiomyoplasty that is able to regenerate cardiomyocytes and revascularize the infarcted area by means of the implantation of stem cells.Several studies have demonstrated that the infusion of stem cells in patients with cardiac ischaemia moderately improves the left ventricular function, although the number of patients, the heterogeneity of the trials, and the time of follow-up have not allowed a relationship to be made to a reduction of mortality and morbidity. The objective of this systematic review is to determine the effectiveness (analytical and clinical validity) of cellular cardiomyoplasty and its clinical utility, for its assessment by the National Health System of Spain.
