Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for locoregional staging of pancreatic tumors

Record ID 32011001460
English
Authors' objectives:

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) incorporates the use of an ultrasound transducer at the tip of a flexible fiberoptic or video endoscope. The ability of EUS to visualize multiple acoustic layers has led to its use for the diagnosis and staging of gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic cancer. The goal of EUS when used for staging pancreatic cancer is to determine whether the cancer is potentially resectable, so that surgical exploration may be avoided in those with unresectable disease.
