Authors' objectives:

The aim of this multicenter study was to evaluate the health related quality of life (HRQL) of patients before and after total hip and knee replacement (THR and TKR) and factors related to HRQL 12 months after surgery.

Authors' recommendations: HRQL scores improved significantly after the ATR and ATC in this study and reached to the scores of the reference population. However, 9% of patients perceived to be the same or worse after surgery, showing no change in terms of increase in their HRQL. Despite identifying similar results to other published studies in terms of factors associated with HRQOL, it is necessary to deepen in the patient related factors of no improvement after surgery.
