Bupropion for smoking cessation
Record ID 32011001319
English
Authors' recommendations:
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms, including craving cigarettes, are extremely prevalent among patients attempting to quit and are often cited as the reason for relapse. Bupropion is an atypical antidepressant but its mechanism of action related to reduction of nicotine withdrawal symptoms is not clear. It is thought that bupropion ameliorates craving and other withdrawal symptoms by decreasing reuptake of neurotransmitters, including norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin in the brain. It is approved as a smoking cessation aid in North America, Australia, and Europe.
