Authors' recommendations:
Based on the reviewed literature, BNP and NT-proBNP testing can be helpful and can be used interchangeably in the diagnosis of heart failure in a variety of settings. Economic studies showed that BNP and NT-proBNP testing provided cost benefit for diagnosis of heart failure in patients presenting with symptoms in the emergency department or in primary care settings. BNP and NT-proBNP measurement for the management of heart failure may be cost-effective.
