Authors' recommendations: Our review found two systematic reviews and two cost analyses that compared implants to non-removable bridges in the adult population. No systematic reviews or studies were found that compared implants to dentures. None of the papers included children. It is difficult to draw conclusions on the relative benefits and harm of implants and bridges because the systematic reviews reported a lack of direct comparative studies. The choice of whether to receive an implant or a bridge will depend largely on cost. Two cost analyses showed that implants are more expensive than bridges, but these studies were not done in the Canadian context.
